What do I need to get started?
To get started on Overnight and browse available listings, you'll need an iPhone and a Facebook account. If you've got both, you're ready to use the app! To make a reservation, you'll be required to input credit card details.
To increase your likelihood of successfully booking with an Overnight host, however, we strongly encourage you to complete all of the Verification measures we have in place:
We use a third-party identification service (Jumio) that specializes in ID and credit card verification. Your government issued ID is a layer of security and verification we have built within our system. Your ID will never be shown publicly. It is only reviewed by our safety team for quality assurance, and is used to identify you in case of an emergency.
Overnight needs your phone number for a variety of reasons. First to verify that you’re a real person (not a spambot), to enable you to receive SMS notifications when you have a booking inquiry, and also to facilitate communication between you and your guest. We require your phone number so that, in the event of a booking, you may get in touch with your host or guest. As a rule of thumb, we always recommend maintaining communication within the Overnight app. Your number will never be shared publicly.
We use Stripe to verify and authorize your credit card. Both guests and hosts need to enter their credit card to ensure no fraudulent cards are on file. Don't worry — we’ll never share your credit card information. Period.
We use these verification measures to ensure that both guests and hosts are safe and secure. We personally vet every member of the Overnight Community, and always have your trust and safety as our #1 priority. If you have further questions about our verification steps, please contact firstname.lastname@example.org
