What verification measures do you offer?
The app contains a suite of features designed for users to control privacy settings, including verifying education & employer, matching listings based on mutual connections, being able to toggle the privacy listing to be shown or obscured, and more.
This is all supported by multiple layers of identification and authentication services, conducting background checks and requiring a Facebook login and phone number, as well as a valid government-issued ID and credit card.
Why Overnight needs your credit card
We use Stripe to verify and authorize your credit card. Both guests and hosts need to enter their credit card to ensure no fraudulent cards are on file. Don't worry — we’ll never share your credit card information. Period.
Why Overnight needs your government-issued ID
We use a third-party identification service (Jumio) that specializes in ID and credit card verification. Your government issued ID is a layer of security and verification we have built within our system. Your ID will never be shown publicly. It is only reviewed by our safety team for quality assurance, and is used to identify you in case of an emergency.
Why Overnight needs your phone number
Overnight needs your phone number for a variety of reasons. First to verify that you’re a real person (not a spambot), to enable you to receive SMS notifications when you have a booking inquiry, and also to facilitate communication between you and your guest. We require your phone number so that, in the event of a booking, you may get in touch with your host or guest. As a rule of thumb, we always recommend maintaining communication within the Overnight app. Your number will never be shared publicly.
Why Overnight needs your Facebook
In order to use Overnight, we require a Facebook account to login. We use Facebook as a layer of safety and identity that helps make both guests and hosts feel at ease because it empowers you to have the right amount of information. This information is key in making a decision as to whether you would want to be a person’s guest or host a guest in your own home
Here’s what we ask for access to:
- Name
- Age
- Gender
- Profile Picture
- E-mail address
- Friends list
We will never give away your information or post to your Facebook profile without your permission. We need this to be able to contact you, populate your Overnight profile, and show any mutual friends you may have with a potential host/guest.
On top of all of the above, we always take a plain and simple gut check. If there's anything about a user's profile that we find unsavory, we flag and remove them immediately.
